Welcome to The Inky Atlas travel sketch blog!
What is The Inky Atlas?
The Inky Atlas is the latest undertaking of a freelance artist who already has too many projects on his table. I have a nasty habit of bringing my sketchbook with me wherever I go, and drawing whatever happens to be in front of me. In an effort to combine that impulse with my natural inclination to explore, I decided to start a travel sketch blog documenting some of the things I see.
My plan for this blog is to showcase interesting and/or historic locales through the lens of my sketchbook. I will primarily feature destinations within a day’s drive from my studio in Georgia, with the occasional road trip to other parts of the US, and the even more rare international journey. The Inky Atlas is, I suppose, a travel blog for art lovers and the traveler on a budget.
That being said, the world is a big place, so I am definitely open to suggestions on places to visit, both in Georgia and around the US.
On the Art
Most of the drawings I post will be loose pen and ink sketches drawn on location, or from photographs I have taken. On some occasions, if the mood strikes or if I happen to have extra time, I may even create a more detailed finished illustration. If you are interested in my finished illustration work, you can check out my full portfolio here.
In most cases, my travels will be short day trips that can easily fit into one post. However, there may be instances where I take a longer trip, or see too many interesting things to cram into one article. In those cases I will break it into multiple posts and spread them out over a number of weeks.
For the time being, blogging is still new to me, so bear with me while I work out the kinks. Hopefully, you can expect new posts every Friday. Once again, welcome! And thank you for checking out The Inky Atlas!
